Rio Preto grouped REDD+ Project

An initiative for conservation that promotes ecosystem restoration and carbon credit generation in the Amazon.

The Rio Preto REDD+ Project is an initiative focused on forest conservation across 2,295 hectares of Amazon rainforest, located in the municipalities of Nova Marilândia and Santo Afonso, in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.

Through assisted natural regeneration and the planting of native species, the project contributes to CO₂ sequestration and emission reduction, promoting vegetation recovery and strengthening the region’s ecosystem services.

Beyond its environmental outcomes, Rio Preto fosters sustainable development through environmental education programs, technical training, and support for local production — creating shared value among nature, communities, and the regional economy.

Conservation and Climate

The Rio Preto Project is at the forefront of Amazon forest conservation, protecting existing forests to maintain biodiversity and ecosystem services. By safeguarding these areas, the project preserves carbon stocks, supports climate regulation, and ensures the long-term sustainability of the forest.

Forest conservation to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and contribute to climate change mitigation
Conducting biomass inventories to quantify carbon stocks and support project monitoring and verification.
Environmental education activities carried out in schools
Initiation of engagement with local institutions to establish future partnerships
Remote monitoring of the project area boundaries using satellite imagery, ensuring territorial integrity and compliance with REDD+ standards

Communities and Sustainability

The Rio Preto Project understands that there can be no standing forest without empowered communities. That’s why it combines environmental education, income generation, and social inclusion — fostering human development in harmony with nature.

Ongoing actions:

Sustainable beekeeping, generating income and natural pollination;
Community planting of seedlings in Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) and Legal Reserves;
Environmental education programs in local schools and associations;
Partnerships with rural producers to promote sustainable farming practices.

Through these efforts, Rio Preto strengthens the connection between nature, people, and the economy, turning conservation into opportunity and sustainability into real impact.
