With the technical support of Future Climate, ENGIE advanced strategically in its climate change adaptation journey by developing robust tools that enhance its climate preparedness and align operations with international frameworks, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and IFRS S2.
Focusing on 31 assets — including solar, wind, hydro power plants, and transmission lines — the project delivered a comprehensive analysis of physical and transition climate risks, based on global climate scenarios (SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, and SSP5-8.5) and strategic time horizons (2030 and 2050).
Beyond risk and impact mapping, the work included the financial quantification of key climate risks and opportunities, offering clear input for decision-making and corporate guidance. As a result, the team developed a Climate Adaptation Plan with actionable measures for all assets assessed, along with a Climate Resilience Index that integrates exposure levels and the effectiveness of mitigation measures. The outcomes were built through strong collaboration with ENGIE’s Climate Task Force and Corporate Risk Department, ensuring alignment with internal strategies through interactive workshops and ongoing methodological support.
Including generation and transmission — solar, hydro, and wind
All incorporated into the adaptation plan for each asset
Developed based on technical diagnostics
SSP2-4.5 (moderate), 3-7.0 (current), 5-8.5 (high emissions)
Built using specific impact and vulnerability indicators
We carried out an in-depth mapping of physical and transition risks, tailored to the operational characteristics of each asset. This approach ensured accurate analysis grounded in field reality, capturing varying levels of exposure and vulnerability.
The collaborative work with ENGIE’s Climate Task Force and Corporate Risk team – through workshops and ongoing alignment – ensured full integration of climate strategies into governance, strengthening the company-wide climate risk management culture.
Each asset received a customized adaptation plan with actionable measures based on its most relevant climate impacts. This translated risk into concrete, ready-to-implement resilience strategies.
We developed a Climate Resilience Index that enables comparative assessment of exposure and response capacity across assets — supporting an integrated view and investment prioritization.
We financially quantified the economic impacts associated with identified climate risks, providing ENGIE with an objective foundation for decision-making and efficient resource allocation in the face of climate challenges.
In 2024, we had the opportunity to work with Future Climate, which contributed significantly to advancing our climate change adaptation efforts. With their expertise, we were able to develop essential tools that strengthened our operations.
The Adaptation Plans they helped create provided us with a solid framework to make decisions, define actions, and prepare our assets for extreme climate events.
